Introduction:

Far from being a simple practice chanter, Master Gaita ® is a simple but powerful tool that lets to use the bagpipe fingering to get into and control the MIDI universe, and also to open new ways faced to the learning of bagpipe technique and music. When connected to a computer with its own program, you can, not only to play with any instrument’s sound but also perform with traditional bagpipes’ sound. This is done by using recorded and prepared samples to get a quite near reality sound. The control of the sound volume lets the performance at any time during the day without worring about posible disturbs that the bagpipe loud sound might produce.

The instrument is strongly made on a PVC tube with nine extremely sensitive tactile devices, so only the smooth contact of a finger resting on any of them is needed to activate them. A semi-rigid cable and a little plastic box make the chanter to get firm in a fixed and confortable position as if it were in its stock. A 2.5 meter long cable leaving the plastic box carries the MIDI singnals to the computer or sound module the Master Gaita is connected to.

Very slightly used set of Shepherd Beginners pipes. A hard carrying case, 4 chanter reeds, reed buddy case. Also included is a electronic metronome and a Krog CA-30 tuner. Along with an almost full bobbin of hemp, cake of wax, and a bottle of bore oil. The bag on the pipes is a Claymore (?) synthetic with zipper. I have over $1000 tied up in this set-up. Sad to say, this old man finally got his pipes to discover that he just does not have what it takes to blow them. Seen very little usage, but the pipes did get there twice a year oiling.

BaGPIPESHe says he’s the best in the world at what he does, and looking at his work, it’s hard to imagine he isn’t.

Bagpipe maker David Atherton makes a blowpipe in his Naperville workshop. Atherton says he works 12 hours a day, seven days a week making bagpipes.

In today’s market where most things, including bagpipes, are mass produced, Atherton is one of a comparative few artisans who creates every detailed facet of his instruments painstakingly by hand.

Atherton, 37, has been making Great Highland bagpipes for 13 years. He spent 12 years as one of two bagpipe makers with C.E. Kron & Company in New York before moving to Naperville in August and going into business for himself.

bantonThere’s a new noise in Rockaway - and it’s coming from a basement workshop.

Nate Banton - New York City’s only bagpipe maker - opened his business in a Neponsit bungalow four months ago. The 30-year-old craftsman specializes in two types of bagpipes: border pipes and small pipes.

“I’m interested in making hand-crafted pipes with an attention to detail,” said Banton, who grew up in Maine. “It’s a good business to be in. I make a product that people can make art with.”

Banton, who apprenticed for three years under noted pipe maker Seth Gallagher in upstate Cold Spring, N.Y., said he had a hard time breaking into the industry.

This set has wooden mounts and plain nickel ferrules. The wood is fully combed and imitation ivory caps adorn the drone tops. This set is available in blackwood. Although more basic in appearance, the ‘a’ set will play and sound just as well as any of the more expensive sets. The higher up the price range you go, the more decoration you get for your money - but the sound quality is always the same.
